Rumours that an Android version of the HTC HD2 is on the way have been dismissed by HTC's chief executive.

Peter Chou rebuffed speculation over a new edition of the phone powered by Google’s operating system in an exclusive interview with US business journal Forbes.

Mr Chou acknowledged that although such a device would be viable, at the moment the company is focussing on the Windows Mobile 6.5-powered version of the handset.

He said: "Technically, we could make the HD2 an Android phone, but I have to take care of Windows Mobile.

“We're working hard on these kinds of products to get excitement about Windows Mobile back”.

Available to pre-order now from Top 10 Mobile Phones, the HD2 features a widget-based homescreen that allows users to customise their phone and a powerful Qualcomm Snapdragon chipset.

The media-optimised forthcoming mobile phone is also home to a five megapixel camera with autofocus and LED flash and a large 4.3-inch touchscreen.

I reckon HTC will give up support for WinMo soon. Android is where the money is for them.

WHY MUST THEY CONTINUE WITH WINDOWS MOBILE? It is riddled with FAIL. If it were me, I would rather be swimming in a pit of money with a viable Iphun competitor, rather than "working hard on these kinds of products to get excitement about Windows Mobile back”. You're not going to get the excitement back...the excitement is dead. ANDROID 2.0 + HTC HD 2, FOR THE WIN!
