Navigon GPS app revealed for Android mobile phones

Owners of phones running both 1.5 and 2.0 versions of the Google Android operating system will be able to improve upon their mobiles' existing GPS functionality thanks to a brand new satnav application from Navigon hitting the Android Market soon.

Navigon already produces a satnav app for the iPhone which sells for around £55, giving the user access to turn by turn navigation and extensive mapping.

It is likely that Navigon will have altered its application in order to comply with the various technical requirements of Android phones, but commentators predict that most of the functionality will remain intact.

The Navigon app aims to break the Google monopoly on mobile mapping software, although since the US market has already gained access to a free navigation app from the search giants, it is likely that Android users in the rest of the world could soon download this free software, which would undoubtedly hamper the chances of the Navigon app achieving significant market share.
