Mobile phone chip manufacturer Qualcomm has revealed that phones could be matching the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 in terms of graphical capabilities within the next 3 years.
The news was announced yesterday at a London conference dedicated to the future technology and business strategy of the hardware giant.
Qualcomm's Sy Choudhury spoke at length about its current range of chips, which power a variety of mobile phones running Android and Symbian software and offer performance and graphics comparable with the ten-year-old PlayStation 2.
Choudhury also indicated that Qualcomm expects to be producing hardware capable of matching the same graphical trickery as the PlayStation 3 by the beginning of 2012.
If this vision is realised, mobile phone users would not only see a revolution in terms of mobile phone games, but could potentially see cross platform releases offering virtually identical graphics and content, regardless as to the chosen format.
