Products which offer protective layers to coat the screen of the iPhone and iPod Touch have been pulled from the shelves of Apple's online and high street retail outlets.
Packs which contain a single film guard will be axed and even deals which bundle in similar technology are no longer eligible for sale from an official Apple shop under the new rules.
Some believe that Apple has made this move in order to make the iPhone seem more durable, as selling screen protection could be seen to be admitting that the iPhone is susceptible to damage.
It has also been alleged by sources quoted on iLounge that Apple has been in discussions with various third-party manufacturers who produce the protective film products.
iPhone owners will be able to purchase these products from other sources online and on the high street, but without Apple backing many of them will struggle to sell in the same numbers as before.
