Orange has secured the rights to sell an exclusive black edition of the highly sought-after HTC Desire Android smartphone.

News of the exclusive colour option and the Orange deal was broken by the carrier's PR manager Conor Maples on Twitter.

The black edition is set for launch towards the end of April, he revealed, just a matter of weeks after the standard version lands on Orange.

Mr Maples tweeted: "Yes we will be ranging the HTC Desire from early April...and an exclusive Black Edition from the end of April too...tempted?"

The Desire is the third Android smartphone to come to Orange in the UK, alongside the Motorola Dext and the Sony Ericsson Xperia X10.

So far, Orange has not given its customers the chance to pre-order the phone and it is still not officially listed as part of the provider's coming attractions.
