A new range of headsets intended to be used with the iPhone have been unveiled by Sony that team built-in music playback controls and a microphone.

The MDR-EX300iP and MDR-E10iP headsets are designed to outclass the basic earphones that Apple provides with the retail version of the iPhone and with a microphone can also double-up as a hands-free calling solution.

Users who pick up the headsets will be able to pause the music and skip tracks without fishing the iPhone out of their pockets.

They will also offer the same functionality when used with any of Apple's current generation of music devices.

The headset is designed to sit right in the user's ear, protruding just enough to give plenty of bass without distorting.

The first of the headphones will launch at some point in May 2010 in a range of colour options, including pretty pink, bright blue and plain old grey.

About time, TBH. Apple headphones are shockingly bad for anyone who actually cares enough about music to care how it sounds.
