Nokia's chief executive Olli-Pekka Kallasvuo has made allusions to the possibility of a powerful Nokia smartphone with a 1GHz Snapdragon processor making an appearance in the future.

Mr Kallasvuo hinted at Nokia's plans in an interview with Business Daily in which he also outlined how he proposes to mount a more sustained challenge to the iPhone by overhauling its strategy and product range.

He said: "Qualcomm definitely is a potential partner going forward. The companies did fight a long time in court and now we see them as a potential partner."

Qualcomm is of course the manufacturer of the Snapdragon processor which powers several smartphones from HTC, including the HD2 and the Desire.

Although these two mobiles use Windows Mobile and Android respectively, a Nokia phone could couple Symbian, Maemo 5 or even MeeGo with the 1GHz CPU.

With Symbian 3 on the way, Nokia is almost certainly working on a next generation smartphone for a launch date later in 2010.

It's now about 8 months after phones like the Toshiba TG01 first appeared and Nokia is just 'contemplating' using a 1GHz processor in a future phone. It's no wonder punters have lost faith in the company.
