The Nokia N8 will be unveiled to the world during April, reports suggest, presumably as a pre-emptive publicity stunt before the firm holds its AGM.

According to an unnamed source, the Nokia N8 will not be available for consumers to buy until September, but the Symbian^3-based smartphone will definitely be making an appearance in the public domain before then.

Earlier in the week, some spy shots claiming to show the N8-00 surfaced, along with rumours as to the phone's hardware capabilities.

It is believed to sport a 12 megapixel camera with HD video capture, along with a high-definition output for big screen viewing.

Observers are sceptical about the news, pointing out that Nokia will probably not get the phone into stores until the autumn, which might make announcing it before the summer a waste of time.

Engadget cited a source known to it, suggesting that it has some degree of faith in the prediction of the September retail date, if not the prediction of a launch next month.
