Nokia has launched version 1.2 of its Nokia N900 SDK with a host of new additions, including a virtual keypad on screen which will mean that the user does not have to slide out the physical board.
Nokia has made it possible to disable the auto-rotate function, which orients the screen depending on how the phone is being held.
Improvements have also been made to the general operation of the N900, ironing out a few kinks and making it feel faster and more user-friendly.
Although the update is ready to go, Nokia has not been able to clarify when UK N900 users will be able to download the SDK version 1.2 for their mobile phones.
A sceptical observer might note that by eliminating the need for the physical keypad during certain apps, Nokia is seemingly suggesting that having it in the first place was a little redundant.
However, any software update that makes a phone more convenient to use can only be seen as a good thing.
