The Google Nexus One is coming to the UK on Vodafone in April, although it appears that you will still only be able to pick it up via Google's website rather than in-store.

According to reports, Vodafone had been looking to get the Nexus One out in March, but sources within both firms have said that a delayed launch in April has been made necessary to ensure that the phone is completely ready for the UK market.

Google is relying on minimal marketing to push the Nexus One into the palms of millions and by restricting the sale of the smartphone to its own store it has so far suffered from relatively low initial sales.

According to the Telegraph, Google and Vodafone are less keen to be drawn on an official release date, being content to say that the Nexus One will become available at some point in the spring.

Apple is continuing to market the current-generation iPhone heavily and it will be interesting to see how the mainstream audience reacts to the similarly priced Nexus One when it arrives without a blaze of publicity.

The Nexus One has missed the boat. Maybe if it had a global launch it would've done OK in the UK. But anyone who knows Android is now just going to wait for the HTC Desire.

    Joey,

Why would everybody want to wait for the HTC Desire? I think the Nexus will become Android's reference platform and will have more applications and earlier than other phones.

Also, I expect Google will be better at keeping the Nexus software updated than HTC because Google has an interest in people using the phone for as long as possible, whereas once HTC has sold a phone they are more interested in you throwing it away and buying a new one.

Since I believe Google's interest are better aligned with mine than HTC's, I'm planning to buy a Nexus One.

    @ Frif,

You do realise that the Nexus One is an HTC device as well don't you? What makes you think the Nexus One will have more applications and earlier?

They will all be running the same Android operating system, so the same software will be universally available at the same time.
