Apple Garry Powell, who last week mislaid his iPhone 4G and prompted a media frenzy, has been given the chance to take a holiday in Germany.

German airline Lufthansa contacted Mr Powell via his Twitter account asking him if he wanted to come over to Munich free of charge on one of its flights to soak up a bit of the German culture and fine alcoholic beverages.

The offer has come about because Mr Powell mentioned on Twitter that he had been thoroughly enjoying German beer on the night he lost the iPhone.

Espying a chance for some free PR, Lufthansa took the opportunity to capitalise on the press storm surrounding the leaked device.

The airline's Nicola C Lange said: "We all know how frustrating it can be to lose personal items, especially when it is such a unique item."

Mr Powell has not responded to the offer and given that Apple is rumoured to have taken a very dim view of his exploits is unlikely to be holidaying any time soon.

I'm betting Gary Powell will be on 'permanent holiday' very soon, anyway. Especially if rumours of Steve Jobs' temper are to be believed.

What a mistak-ah to make-ah. Also I'm not sure this is the best ever advert for German beer? The message is: it'll get you into a whole load of trouble.

@Catman Are you saying you smell a conspiracy, Catman? It'd be pretty smart of Apple. But don't they normally like to micro-manage their PR? This is a bit too much like the black arts for Apple to behind the 'leak' surely?

@Catman I think you maybe right. Looking at the product itself it's quite different (design wise) from the 3 previous iPhones, so maybe Apple is trying to get the temperature of the blogosphere whether its new product is as slick as the previous one.

@Catman The moment I saw the iPhone debuted to the world by "accident" I had the same thoughts. Apple needed something to trump its iPad buzz across the media. What better than to accidentally lose a fully functional 4th gen iPhone?

Thinking about how strict they were with the iPad in developer's hands just days before it's release, how can we possibly believe that months before the announcement of a new iPhone there would be one just lying in a bar. This was also just days after the OS4 announcements. The timing just seems too perfect for it to be anything but planned.
