A torrent of new smartphone hardware has emerged from Dell, including several mobiles that use the new Windows Phone 7 platform.

The Dell Lightning is one of the planned smartphones to feature Windows Phone 7 and in adherence with Microsoft's minimum requirements it has a 1GHz processor. It also boasts a full QWERTY keypad and 4.1- inches of prime OLED screen.

Dell revealed that it will be releasing a revamped version of the Lightning in late 2011 when 4G networks are available in the UK and the US.

Fans of Android will be able to choose the Dell Thunder, which sports the same basic specifications as the Lightning but has native support for Flash 10.1, enabling a video streaming app from Hulu to make endless hours of TV available to US customers.

The Android line-up is completed by the Flash and Smoke, which both aim at the mass market with cut-down hardware not detracting from the presence of Android 2.1.

According to Engadget, it will have an integrated digital TV tuner and a native resolution of 800x480.

Good looking phones each and every one. But Dell isn't the go-to platform for Android. So it'll have a job selling them to anyone but committed tech fans. Same goes for the Windows phone, which if anything is even more niche.
