An strangely styled successor to Motorola's massive-selling Milestone Android smartphone is incoming, online speculation suggests.

A picture of the phone has emerged on tech site Droid Dog, showing a handset bearing the distinct Motorola branding and a completely square screen.

This would be an odd addition, given the fact that most mobiles opt for widescreen displays.

Sources say that the phone will run Android 2.1 with the MotoBlur interface on top of the standard Android OS.

The leaked image also indicates that there is a full QWERTY keypad hidden underneath the square screen.

The device has been greeted with a fair degree of scepticism online. Some have said that the MotoBlur interface looks as though it is nowhere near as polished as previous versions, whilst others have speculated that the mobile could be an ageing prototype pre-dating the Milestone.
