Nokia's free turn-by-turn navigation provided by Ovi Maps has now arrived for the N86 eight megapixel smartphone as part of an upgrade to the mobile's firmware.

Nokia says that the main purpose of the firmware is to gently tweak the performance of the phone. The file is about 140 megabytes in size, with the option to download it over the air.

According to sources, the update allows the user to access Ovi Maps 3.3, which contains the desirable turn-by-turn navigation for free.

Further social networking integration is also part of the package, with support for transmitting users' whereabouts over Facebook.

The eight megapixel camera on the rear of the N86 is apparently a little quicker to load and there is reduced delay time after photos have been taken before the next shot can be snapped.

Because of the size of the file most people will probably want to connect to a Wi-Fi hotspot or download the firmware to their PC before transferring it over in order to avoid high data charges.
