Smartphone fans who pick up new Sony Ericsson handsets from network provider 3 will have access to unique Spotify playlists compiled by some of the biggest names in the music world.

Sony Ericsson is hoping that it will be able to generate interest in the Vivaz and the Xperia X10 both of which have been recently released and come with two months free subscription to Spotify.

Established acts such as Keane and The Stereophonics are joined by newcomers including Elli Goulding and Mumford & Sons and the playlists are apparently inspired by the global travels of these stars.

Keane are apparently basing their choices on plenty of late-night train rides, while The Stereophonics are working on a list inspired by their recent touring which took them between Newcastle and Glasgow.

Fair enough where Mumford & Sons are concerned. But Keane and the Stereophonics? Is this really the way for SE to appear to be down with the kids?

Why not get Mark Knopfler to do it? He's at least as cutting-edge as those two dad rockers.
