Apple is planning to make Facebook an integral part of the next iPhone, rumours suggest, with version 4.0 of the iPhone operating system (OS) allegedly supporting the service from day one.

Facebook will no longer be an individual app when the new iPhone arrives, but it will apparently be available amidst the many built-in features and functions of the smartphone.

This will include contact synchronisation and possible some App Store functionality, although details are limited.

App developers will be able to offer third party support for Facebook as part of their own creations, with Apple giving support for Facebook in the software development kit (SDK), according to Apple Insider.

Facebook has well over 350 million users world-wide and it is highly likely that most iPhone owners will have a profile that they check regularly.

Giving them the ability to use the iPhone and Facebook in a deeper way will probably be a popular move, although for the time being Apple is staying very quiet about the next iPhone and its software platform.

This is something that Android phones have had from launch, tho' right? Google will always have the whip hand when it comes to integrating facebook in fones, since they're shareholders.

I seriously hope that Apple don't bother with this. I am sick of everything I do being automatically posted on Facebook. I know I can switch off the auto posting and other stuff, but with Facebook being in EVERYTHING, there's going to be something that starts spamming Facebook sooner or later.

I am fine with Facebook the App, and I don't need my phone to automatically upload every picture I take and text I send and website I visit. But I don't want to get rid of Facebook altogether because I like using it for the things it was originally made for. Not what it's become! :P
