Apple smartphone owners will be able to find out where mozzies and midges will be amassing this summer thanks to a new app from Advanced Pest Solutions (APS).

The brilliantly named Midge App is free to download and gives iPhone access to data from APS' forecast for potential midge trouble spots throughout the UK.

The recent stint of clement weather is set to cause billions of midges to emerge, according to Dr Alison Blackwell of APS.

She said: "I have a feeling we may be seeing quite a lot this year. Midges like warm and wet weather."

Low temperatures at the beginning of the year impacted the population of midges in the UK, although trillions of the blighters are still going to appear and pester holiday makers despite the cold snap.
