Muhammad app dropped from iPhone App Store

Apple has withdrawn the iSlam Muhammad app from sale at the App Store, in a move intended to head off a flashpoint with Muslims angered by depictions of the Islamic prophet.

The Muhammad app sold for less than a pound and was home to extracts from the Qur'an which were said to incite violence against non-believers.

It is slightly surprising that something so incendiary and confrontational was allowed on the App Store in the first place, given that Apple has been acting with extreme caution in its recent removal of apps that it perceives to be satirical, defamatory or pornographic.

The developer of the iSlam Muhammad app has pointed to the fact that an app criticising those of the Christian faith is still amongst the nearly 200,000 other apps currently offered to iPhone and iPod Touch users. Apple's censors could well be planning another purge of provocative apps such as these.

Last week protesters from around the world took part in the "International Draw Muhammad Day" and the online posting of pictures showing representations of Muhammad led to Pakistani authorities blocking the social networking site Facebook.

@Arshad, I made the app to make a comedic point about the absurdity in Islam forcing the entire world to submit to its dogma.

Do you think that people who criticize parliament should be kept quiet?

The reason Islam has become such a force for fear and violence is because it is totally intolerant of any dissent or protest.

Protest has the only effective means by which to stand up to the Catholic church and call it into check. The same needs to happen with Islam.

When a religion's dogma encroaches onto the freedoms of others it has changed from a belief into a dictatorship.

When you attack women, they call it Sexism.
When you attack homosexuality, they call it Intolerance.
When you attack your country, they call it Treason.
When you attack a religious sect, they call it Hate speech.
But when you attack the Prophet Peace Be Upon Him,they want to call it freedom of speech!!

@ Richard, Let's assume that your mam is a wonderful lady and she had sacrificed her entire life raising you to be what you are right now. Then I come and say something bad about her; just F words and negative attributes. Will you tolerate that?

Freedom of speech is a wonderful thing that only concious people really comprehend. With the lack of knowledge people nowadays have, it is pretty shameful. Even polititcians and ecomonists are now taken the detour toward ignorance.

God bless all, those who deserve it, and those who do not.

A total affront to Freedom of Speech. Since when did we all have to live our lives according to religious dogma?

The people who are insulting the prophet Muhammad PBUH are not doing it in the name of freedom of speech but in the name of hatred. What’s the point of angering a community of 1.5 billion people who love the prophet, more than their own families?

Why should we just sit back and let this happen? These people directly insult us when they insult the prophet Muhammad because Muslims consider him more beloved than their own parents, wife and children. Surely a person wouldn’t let another abuse, insult in the most derogatory way about whom they love especially if what they say is not true and is in fact opposite to the unparallel character, morals and manners of this prophet.

These people don’t have a point to prove except that their point is incorrect and based on hatred, not on facts. I would dare anybody who has the guts to just read about the prophets life and look at his character, his mission, his interactions with people – and I am sure that their conclusion about this great prophet will be opposite of what they are saying now. I have no doubt they will appreciate and come to respect this prophet unless their heart is already blackened with hatred and bias.

There are people in this world who like to spread hatred by providing the fuel to start a fire and then watch it burn while they sit back. The people who want to draw offensive images of the prophet of islam are no better than those who spread hatred under the banner of islam. You are all haters. There are good people in this world, muslim and non-muslim who just want to live their lives in peace and not get offended and attacked by all you haters... show some love ya'll.
