A network provider in France has claimed that the HTC Magic, which was one of the first mobiles to use the Android operating system, will be updated to support version 2.2 of Google's platform.

SFR also confirmed that the Google Nexus One will be getting Android 2.2 at some point in the summer, but it did not give any specific dates for the arrival of such an update.

The US equivalent of the HTC Magic has already been the subject of similar Android 2.2 related rumours and announcements, so it would be unsurprising to see the same update making it to European users, as the phone is clearly capable of supporting the latest software, despite its age.

SFR has not said whether it has secured Android 2.2 for its Magic owning users, or if it is destined for a roll out to everyone regardless as to network affiliation.

There are several other HTC smartphones awaiting Android 2.2 in the form of an update, according to UnwiredView and so this news can only suggest that the wheels are in motion.

This'd be genuinely amazing if it happened. But given HTC's form in delivering updates, I'm not holding breath. At all.
