The first games for Android from developer PopCap could be on their way before the end of the year, it has been revealed.

PopCap has created a website dedicated to Android titles, although at this point in time it is empty of content so details of its plans are scant.

However, its very existence suggests that the likes of Plants Vs Zombies, Peggle and Bejewelled could turn up on the Android Market in the near future.

A spokesperson for PopCap told Pocket Gamer: "[We] can confirm that yes, we're bringing our games to Android over the rest of 2010 and beyond."

The company has a strong mobile division and a history of success in the mobile gaming market, with everything from the iPhone to standard Java-based mobiles included in its back catalogue.

Earlier this year, the iPhone edition of Plants Vs Zombies became the fastest-selling game ever for the App Store, shifting 300,000 units within just nine days of its release.

So Android has got Flash games and all the best casual games that the iPhone has got now. In which case, if you're srs about gaming why choose an iPhone?

I have an Archos 5 IT which runs Android but doesn't seem to have access to real Android apps. The appslib is cheesy. Archos provides next to no support and most phone apps aren't relevant to non-phone devices.

At first, I was psyched that the new Archos runs Android. It's my first Archos, but now I wish it was still Linux. At least then I'd have my first Linux device instead of this overfed mp3 player.

@Mandrake 33,000 games on the iPhone's App Store... none of which are going to torch your battery or send your banking information to a private server in Europe.

I think any game, whether it's for iPhone or Android has a chance of being abused by the developer, especially if it's free.

Additionally if you buy an app from the Apple's app store it's bound to be censored regardless of whether it's a game or a dictionary app.
