The BlackBerry 9670, which uses the clamshell design and version 6.0 of the BlackBerry operating system (OS), has made an appearance in a video online.

BlackBerry manufacturer Research in Motion (RIM) has not traditionally favoured the flip phone design, sticking instead with a solid bar style for its business-centric mobiles.

The 9670 is set to change this, although BlackBerry fans will be more interested in what the new OS brings to the table.

The flip design houses the primary screen inside, with a secondary display mounted on the exterior, perhaps offering touchscreen interactivity with newly received emails.

A five megapixel camera is mounted on the rear and you can expand the 512MB of basic storage by adding in a microSD memory card.

RIM has worked hard on the user interface for BlackBerry OS 6.0, with a colour coded system to make messaging easier. It has also integrated native support for Twitter and YouTube, which means you will not have to fire up the browser to tweet or check out videos.

The 9670 was examined and shot by fansite Driphter.com, which reacted positively to most of the phone's features. As RIM gears up to launch this and its slider-style Bold smartphone, a new age of intriguing designs is on the cards.

RIM needs to come back strongly. This looks good. But they're not the business user's immediate choice any more. And this probably won't change that.
