Rumours suggest that Research in Motion (RIM)'s next BlackBerry, which had originally been codenamed the Slider, will arrive on the market as the BlackBerry Torch.

It had previously been assumed that the slider smartphone would become part of the Bold range, but now it could be starting out on its own with the Torch suffix.

RIM has apparently been debating the issue internally and has already put the smartphone into production in Mexico, according to CrackBerry.

These latest rumours are based upon several pieces of evidence, the most significant of which is the web address of BlackBerryTorch.com, which RIM registered two months ago.

Further support for the Torch name comes in the form of a recent RIM acquisition which saw it take control of mobile software developer TorchMobile.
