HTC Hero owners will be able to upgrade their phone to the latest version of Android on June 18th, it has been claimed.

Androidpit.de, an Android fan site based in Germany, claims that HTC officially confirmed the launch date in a telephone conversation with a representative of the site.

The HTC spokesperson allegedly said that Android 2.1 will be arriving on HTC Hero smartphones around the continent as an over-the-air update, with firmware being upgraded automatically.

The HTC Hero remains a popular low cost choice for people looking to get in on the Android act at the ground floor. With version 2.1 of the software on board it will be even more capable than over the past year.

That would only be for generic Heroes. What about the G2 Touch, T-Mobiles branded version? i doubt we will get an OTA update.
