Nokia has created a new registration page on its UK website in order to promote the N8 smartphone where eager fans can sign up to get more information.

Nokia first issued N8-related details back in April and since then much more has become apparent about the mobile, with many media outlets receiving test models to try out.

Nokia is following in the footsteps of network partner Vodafone, which launched its own N8 mailing list in May. Now that both firms appear to be assessing interest levels in the handset, it is likely that the pre-order process will begin soon.

The Nokia N8 will have a 12 megapixel camera that can shoot high definition video, coupled with 16GB of onboard storage space and the brand new Symbian ^3 operating system.

Nokia will be attempting to steal customers away from the iPhone 4 with its latest smartphone offering, although its success might already be compromised by stiff competition on a second front in the form of Google's Android.

If the N8 is 'ready enough' to have been sent out to tech sites, why is it taking so long to arrive?
