HTC is close to launching Android 2.2 updates for two of its most popular smartphones, it has been claimed.

Suggestions that the Desire will get FroYo imminently stem from a Tweet from Mark Moons of HTC Benelux, who told followers that the roll out will "start tomorrow.

Meanwhile, speculation that the Wildfire will be receiving the Android 2.2 treatment is based on rumours that the first batch of units destined for the Chinese market have the updated platform preinstalled.

This implies that everything has been made ready for Android 2.2, including HTC's popular Sense interface.

HTC had originally hinted that it was aiming to get the updates out before Christmas, suggesting that problems caused by making Google updates work with its own user interface have finally been ironed out.

why cant they just update it and roll it out straight away? or why cant they just use stock android 2.2 instead of adding fancy nonsense on top of it?

it would be so much easier considering the wildfire isnt the fastest phone HTC has made and android 2.2 will (hopefully) improve the performance.
