Samsung's high end Galaxy S smartphone is set to get an update that will bring with it version 2.2 of the Android platform, the company has confirmed.

Galaxy S phones will come with Android 2.1 and be upgradeable to Android 2.2 which will support Adobe Flash 10.1," said Samsung via its Twitter account.

It is clear that Samsung, like Google, is pushing the fact that Android 2.2 offers native support for Flash whilst Apple has completely booted the platform from its new iPhone software.

Samsung will have to take time and make sure that its TouchWiz interface, which sits on top of the standard Android offering, is fully compatible with version 2.2 of the platform before it launches the Galaxy S update.

Available now, the handset teams great built-in Google apps as well as the chance to download thousands more from the Android Market.

The phone is also home to a five megapixel camera, an expansive touchscreen, a media player and video editing software.

Note how Samsung is being totally transparent about the fact there might be problems with getting Android 2.2 to work with its TouchWiz skin. If HTC had done the same, there wouldn't have been anything like the same level of fuss.
