Version 5.0.2 of the BlackBerry Enterprise Server (BES) has been launched by Canadian manufacturer Research in Motion (RIM), bringing many improvements to BlackBerry users with business needs.

BES handles the push email functions for which the BlackBerry range has become famous and the latest edition allows management to exercise greater control over what it is possible for employees to achieve on their BlackBerry mobiles.

As an example, both business and personal email accounts can now be accessed from a single device. It is possible to activate remote deletion of data stored on a BlackBerry which is relevant to the business without simultaneously erasing data that is personal to the individual user thanks to BES 5.0.2.

Version 6.0 of the BlackBerry operating system (OS) will be a prerequisite for compatibility with the updated BES and its new features.

This ability to serve both business and personal use is echoed by the new iOS 4 platform that RIM's rival Apple launched last month and since RIM is losing market share in the business sector to the iPhone it is no surprise to see it matching the competition's pace.
