Apple has developed an app which allows iPhone 4 users to pick a free case if they are suffering reception problems due to the smartphone's flawed antenna set-up.
The Case Program App is available to download now and offers users' a choice of Apple's standard black bumper, or the Belkin Shield Micra or the Griffin Reveal Etch.
Once ordered, iPhone 4 owners can expect a three to five week wait for delivery. Those who have already bought a bumper from their own funds will have their purchase refunded by Apple.
The Cupertino-based company will be hoping that it can quickly move past the antenna issues that have dogged the iPhone 4 since its launch in June, but consumers have notoriously long memories when a product fails to meet basic requirements in such a fundamental way.
