Nokia's high end N900 smartphone is getting an update to its Firefox browser, with version 1.1 bringing plenty of new features to the table.

Firefox 1.1 is built on the framework of version 3.6 of the desktop equivalent, although it has been extensively modified to make sure that it is easy to use on a smartphone screen.

N900 owners will be pleased to hear that Firefox 1.1 is now able to display in both landscape and portrait modes for one-handed browsing and the zoom capability has been improved along with a generally augmented interface.

It is now also possible to personalise the homepage to make browsing feel more of a bespoke experience.

The user will have far more control over the security settings in Firefox 1.1, with the ability to customise passwords, third party add-ons and the way in which images are loaded from websites.

The Weave Sync feature will allow N900 users to share browsing information between their desktop version of Firefox and the mobile edition and the update is free to download right now.

Nothing can make the N900 any less unwieldy to use. Shame because I used to love Nokia.
