It should soon be possible to stream music from Spotify while performing other tasks on the iPhone 4 and other iOS 4 devices, with an update that enables multitasking with the app.

It took a little over a week after the arrival of iOS 4 for the multitasking-capable Spotify to be submitted to Apple, although some users would doubtlessly have preferred the app to have been launched alongside Apple's new platform.

Apple claims that it is rarely sluggish when it comes to approving the apps that are submitted to the App Store and so hopefully Spotify will be ready for multitasking with iOS 4 after just a short wait.

Spotify has hinted on its official blog that the updated app includes some kind of unannounced extra which it is not currently discussing in public, which it refers to as a "nice little surprise" for users.

I reckon the surprise will just be some exclusive tracks or something. Can't see it being a new feature or they'd want to be shouting about it. Especially since last I heard subscription levels were in the doldrums.
