blackberry torch tryptch

Research in Motion (RIM) will be selling the BlackBerry Torch to UK customers from the beginning of October, according to online retailer Expansys.

The site has not only announced the release date for the latest addition to the BlackBerry family, but also put a £570 price tag on the smartphone, which makes it considerably more expensive than the 16GB version of the iPhone 4 and nearly as much as the 32GB edition.

The BlackBerry Torch is set to lead the BlackBerry range, stepping into the shoes of the popular Bold model. Its touchscreen interface and sliding design make it an important arrival for RIM, as the manufacturer has previously failed to find success with its touchscreen-only Storm smartphones.

Although the Torch could be considered to be a direct rival for the iPhone 4 as it is packing the latest BlackBerry operating system, some have reacted negatively to news of its steep price tag.
