The under-development HTC Glacier could offer the most powerful processor in smartphone history, according to leaked benchmarks.

Although specific details about the actual speed and make-up of the processor are unclear from the results, which apparently leaked from within T-Mobile's US operation, it looks like it could be a dual core unit with a clock speed of up to 1.5GHz.

This would outpace the current generation of high end handsets by up to three times.

Motorola has said that it wants to release an Android smartphone with a 2GHz processor before the end of the year and now it looks like HTC is getting ready for the ever-increasing processor arms race to escalate once more.

There's widespread speculation over what name the Glacier prototype will eventually be given. It could arrive as T-Mobile's Project Emerald smartphone, or a new addition to the popular Sidekick range, which T-Mobile owns, according to Alien Babel.
