The cost of using Android 2.2 is set to fall as Huawei has announced that it will be producing a low cost mobile that runs the latest version of Google's operating system.

Huawei is poised to unveil UI850 at the IFA 2010 tech expo this year and although it is said to have some constraints in accordance with its price point, in some areas it is rumoured to be on par with top of the line Android smartphones.

A 2.8-inch touchscreen with finger-friendly capacitive technology will be the centrepiece of the handset, together with a 3.2 megapixel camera, Wi-Fi and even GPS for navigation.

The phone will also support 801.11n standard Wi-Fi, which is definitely a welcome detail, although the rumoured processor clock speed of 528MHz might pose a problem when it comes to interface slickness, since other Android 2.2 smartphones have at least 1GHz at their disposal.

Pricing for the UI850 is yet to be confirmed, but it is expected to sell for around £100.

It's all about the perceived sexiness of the brand, tho' with Android. Thanks why the Dell Streak has done nothing. PPL think of them as a boring computer company. And Huawei are thought of in the same way.
