Stun guns packing an astonishing 1.2 million volts of electricity were discovered after smugglers attempted to get them into the UK by disguising them as Nokia mobile phones.
The weapons are illegal here because they can be potentially lethal and are roughly 24 times more powerful than the tasers used by UK police to incapacitate subjects.
The devices, which to the naked eye, look like harmless Nokia branded handsets, have been recovered at both Manchester and Glasgow airports, although some had managed to slip through before being found in a London sorting office.
The devices are manufactured in the US and it is believed that gangs of crooks are facilitating their illegal import to the UK.
UK Border Force chief Brodie Clark told The Sun: “We don't want these weapons on Britain's streets."
YouTube footage of a child playing with one of the disguised weapons has already emerged and there are fears that serious injury or even death could result from their use.
