O2 will be offerring the Sony Ericsson Xperia X8 as part of its handset line-up when it launches in September, it has been confirmed.

The Sony Ericsson X8 is set to offer similar functionality to the high end Xperia X10, whilst featuring a little more screen space than the diminutive X10 Mini.

It will also sport a three inch touchscreen display and a 3.2 megapixel camera, along with the social networking software and the same custom interface of its siblings.

Sony Ericsson is still relying on Android 1.6 for its new smartphones and this is seen as a slight hindrance given that Android 2.2 has recently arrived to a rapturously positive reception from users.

The smartphone maker has yet to confirm which iteration of Google's operating system will run on the X8.

    Surely it won't run 1.6? That's a joke. Unless it's really, really cheap no-one - and I mean NO-ONE - wd buy it.
