Samsung is set to release its debut 4G smartphone in partnership with US network provider Sprint, speculation suggests.

Specifications for the high-end mobile are thin on the ground, but it is believed to have Android 2.2 on board, along with a 1GHz processor, a five megapixel camera and a four-inch super AMOLED display.

Also likely to feature is support for microSD memory cards and the latest Wi-Fi networking.

The style of the Epic 4G is not expected to diverge enormously from the thin, black smartphones that have become a Samsung trademark recently.

Samsung is also believed to be planning a cut down version of the Epic 4G, presumably minus its WiMAX connectivity in the UK, as the Galaxy S Pro, according to Androidpolice.

The Samsung Epic 4G is the second Wimax enabled next-generation smartphone after the HTC Evo 4G.
