Microsoft plans to bring real-time phone to console gaming to the Windows Phone 7 platform, it has been revealed.
Although the first Windows Phone 7 mobiles will not have this functionality straight out of the box, the tech giant is working towards allowing games being played on the Xbox to play simultaneously on a smartphone running its new platform.
Greg Milligan of Microsoft told RGB Filter: "Initially we're 'turn by turn' based. We are working on real-time phone-to-console, likely initially through Wi-Fi.
"That's not on day one; day one will be 'turn by turn' as well as companion-type gaming where you play a level on the phone and it may unlock a level or a weapon or some special achievement on the console game."
Earlier this month, Microsoft announced that the launch line-up of games for its forthcoming smartphones will comprise 60 titles, including Bejewelled and Guitar Hero 5.
