An updated version of Opera Mini has landed on phones running Windows Mobile, bringing with it some pretty impressive features.

Opera Mini 5.1 makes its debut on the platform a good four months after it landed on Android phones, but the new functions ought to go some way to consoling Windows Mobile smartphone owners.

Among the improvements to the browser is a server backbone that cuts the amount of data used up by as much as 90 per cent, potentially slashing mobile web charges and maximising monthly allowances.

Also new is support for phones with displays with auto rotation and the option to set Opera Mini as the default browser on your handset.

Finally, if you’ve got a HTC HD2 or another phone with a high res display, you’ll benefit from improved page rendering.

Opera Mini 5.1 is free to download and is available now. The revamped browser is also on offer for BlackBerrys and phones running Java.
