The "world's first intelligent stamp" has been issued by the Royal Mail, offering iPhone and Android owners access to some exclusive, nostalgic content.

According to the Royal Mail, the issue marks “the next step in the evolution of our stamps, bringing them into the 21st Century”.

To access the content, smartphone users first need to head to either the Android Market or App Store and download the augmented Junaio augmented reality browser app for free.

Once that’s done, you can open up said app, choose the Royal Mail channel and the Great British Railways option and scan the stamp with their handset’s camera.

This launches a video of 1970s children’s TV favourite Bernard Cribbins performing a rather lovely reading WH Auden poem The Night Train.

The Royal Mail's Philip Parker adds: "This is the first time a national postal service has used this kind of technology on their stamps and we're very excited to be bringing intelligent stamps to the nation's post.

"Royal Mail's special stamps mark key events and anniversaries in the UK's heritage through a programme which aims to be both educational and informative.”
