Owners of the Samsung Galaxy may have to wait until the end of October to get Froyo on their phones, a Facebook update from Samsung’s Spanish division suggests.

ndroid 2.2 was originally thought to be due to be rolled out to handsets this month, with a Finnish Samsung worker recently identifying the 23rd as the most likely date for the latest iteration to arrive.

However, a post on Samsung's Spanish Facebook fanpage suggests otherwise. According to the profile update, which was posted on Monday, Froyo won’t land on the handset in Spain until the end of October.

How far overseas launch dates are a reliable indicator of a UK rollout are a moot point. However, widespread problems with getting Android updates out to Britons suggests that we could be in for an even longer wait.

Launched earlier this year, the Galaxy S packs a four-inch SUPER AMOLED touchscreen display, a five-megapixel camera and expandable memory of up to 32GB.

Running Android 2.1 out of the box, the handset, which has been one of the best-received Android phones so far, also houses a 1GHz processor and Samsung’s TouchWiz custom skin.

I'd have thought the Galaxy S will be first in line for the update, no? It's optimised for it after all. It's just whether networks can get their sorry butts in gear to get it right that matters.

Even so, Google needs to do something about fragmentation right now. The Gmail update plan is a step in the right direction, tho'.

I have recently bought samsung galaxy s i9000. The phone is amazing but i am very much dissapointed by faulty GPS. GPS is not at all working. Not locking with sattelites at all. This is really bad to notice that to after investing huge money.

Galaxy s is riddled with problems. GPS never works, always freezes, decides to change screen when in middle of writing an sms, checks for emails when it feels like it, calls cut off randomly, the processor is rather slow, you could wait upto 20 seconds for a screen to load. I could go on and on. I think they need to get their finger out and iron all these problems out on 2.2

@dean: We're we talking about the same phone here? The "galaxy s" has only been out for about 3 months... Even then, try getting a ip4 2 years ago. OH WAIT, that was just an iSheep bashing anything not up to his fruity tastes. Even if you typo'd months instead of years... as an o2 employee, you should have seen / played with both as the galaxy s came out shortly after the ip4.

@craig: the gps is wonky, and samsung admitted that practically right away (from what I understand was a last minute service change that wasn't able to be corrected immediately). Some people have posted some possible fixes even before 2.2. Give google a whirl.

As for must of your other problems, nobody else seems to have similar issues. You may want to use that warranty. Lemons happen once in a while, for any product.

@Craig You must have a faulty phone as that is not my experience.

@gaurav and @craig My Galaxy has no problem with GPS. It just you need to enable both wireless assisted and gps in the 'Location Service' settings.

And first time launch, it will take time longer to lock (nearly 3-5 min) because it downloading the geo data from google for the A-GPS purposes. Then, when finish, everything will be ok, your GPS locked faster.

This is my second replacement and still issues. Although I am on orange lol. I may try the 2.2 update that has been released without being network specific. Don't get me wrong the features of the phone are superb, but it seems my phone is on a go slow.
