Rovio has seemingly dashed hopes that Angry Birds will appear on current-gen BlackBerrys.

A Tweet from the casual gaming giants in response to a fan’s entreaty for news about a version of the title for current and older messaging focussed phones revealed that there are currently “no plans for BlackBerrys”.

Rovio added that there is a chance that it might come to the “new ones”, presumably meaning the Torch and the new addition to the Bold range.

The decision to omit older BlackBerrys is presumably down to the fact that many do not have touchscreens, thus necessitating that a completely new control system is implemented.

In other Angry Birds news, Rovio has also declared that the planned range of themed merchandise could be in the shops soon, revealing that it hopes to “see them at retail before xmas”.

Yesterday, it was announced that the full version Android phone version of the game has been delayed and will now not be appearing until next week.
