Taiwanese smartphone giant HTC scooped two major awards at this year’s T3 Awards, bagging gongs for both Phone of the Year and Tech Brand of the Year.
The HTC Desire, which has been met with huge critical and commercial acclaim in the UK since its release in February, was the deserved winner. It beat out rivals Samsung Galaxy S and the formidable iPhone 4, which no doubt lost some of its glitz due to the antenna issues it has been struggling with since launch.
But fair play to HTC for consistently churning out great products to spearhead the smartphone race and take the fight to Apple.
iPhone 4 did win ‘Commuter Gadget of the Year’, but then again, you don’t have to worry about your reception if you’re just trying to kill time on the underground.
On a serious note, Apple scored a number of other awards at the show, including the main prize of the night, Gadget of the Year. This was won by the iPad Wi-Fi and 3G model, which has been a tremendous success and left rivals scrambling to come up with copycat devices. It also won Innovation of the Year, which we can’t disagree with either.
The App of the Year was won by Google Maps Navigation for providing free and comprehensive turn-by-turn voice-guided GPS navigation.
