The Motorola Defy, which teams Android smartphone functionality with the robustness of a tough phone, looks set to be hitting stores later this month.
French tech site MobiFrance have reported that Moto is holding a press call on October 21st to showcase what it describes as a ‘life-proof smartphone”.
The Defy isn’t actually named in the press invite, but, given that Moto doesn’t have any other toughphones on the horizon, it’s a fairly safe bet that the event will mark the Defy’s launch.
Unfortunately, there’s no word of a concrete UK release date, but we can assume it won’t be too much longer, especially given how closely co-ordinated European releases tend to be.
Standout specs for the Defy, which runs Android 2.1 out of the box, include a 3.7-inch touchscreen fashioned from the same super robust Gorilla Glass that features on the iPhone 4 and the Samsung Galaxy Tab and a five megapixel camera.
It’s also dust and water resistant thanks to a natty seal that means it can be submerged in water for up to half an hour and come out as good as new.
