HTC Desire owners on 3 will be able to get onboard with Android 2.2, AKA Froyo, again today, after the carrier announced it is pushing out the OS upgrade for a second time.

3 initially sent out the update on October 14th, but was forced to pull it ten days later when a raft of Desire users reported problems accessing the Android Market after downloading Froyo.

However, a post on the carrier’s Twitter site reveals it’s ready to roll out what it’s to be hoped is a glitch-free version of the new iteration today.

3 Tweeted: “News in from HTC - The update will be re-released on the 11th :-)."

Froyo brings (back) some pretty smart features to HTC’s best-selling smartphone, including improved battery life and 720p HD video recording.

The update also offers Flash 10.1 support in the browser and some rather natty HTC apps, including a custom calculator and a tethering appliction that enables Desire owners to use their handset as a dongle to get online with other 3G-enabled devices.

@Riddims Rob where did you download it?

@Lee, go to Menu -> Settings -> About Phone -> System Software Updates and tap Check Now and you should receive the update OTA (Over The Air). You are better to be connected via WIFI as it's a big update and 3G is a bit slow for updates anyway.

The update is working fine for me, a little faster than Eclair and frees up some extra memory. Most importantly, Android Market works perfectly. To get Adobe Flash, you have to go download it from Market. HD recording is now available and is quite good, although the auto focus lets it down a little.
