Android 2.2 lands on iPhone with Bootlace app

iPhone owners with jailbroken phones can now run Android 2.2 on their handset without using a computer, with the release of the Bootlace app.

Users of Apple’s handset could already get onboard with Froyo by using iPhoDroid. But that needed use of a PC to get the OS blood transfusion working.

However, Bootlace (no, we don’t understand the nomenclature either, but we’re guessing it’s something to do with bootlegging) allows you to download and Froyo directly to your handset with minimum fuss and run Google’s OS and iOS 4.2 simultaneously.

Naturally, we don’t need to remind you that if you do jailbreak your Apple smartphone, you’ll be invalidating your warranty. But that’s nothing a quick system restore can’t fix.

Other than that you need to know that to get Bootlace running you’ll have to be in possession of an iPhone 3G running iOS 3.1.2, 3.1.3, 4.0, 4.0.1, 4.0.2 or 4.1 or an iPhone 2G packing iOS 3.1.2 or 3.1.3.

Of course, you’ll need a jailbreaking tool that supports Bootlace - choose from PwnageTool, Redsn0w or Blackra1n. If you need a bit of help installing it, you can find full instructions at Redmondpie.com.

And one last thing. We're surely not the only ones to notice that the arrival of Bootlace means that Froyo has landed on the iPhone before some Android mobiles. Now isn't that ironic?
