Images of what is purported to be a new Sony Ericsson Android smartphone have leaked online, as it gears up to challenge newer efforts running Google’s operating system from the likes of HTC and Samsung.
According to a source cited by the Xperia X10 Blog, the handset, reportedly titled the ANZU, packs a vast 4.3-inch touchscreen and will be “very, very slim”.
Sounds promising, no? That’s just the half of it. It’s claimed that the handset will run Android 2.3, AKA Gingerbread, out of the box. However, we’re taking that one with a pinch of salt, given that the photo clearly shows it running Android 2.1.
One thing is for sure: in the wake of update problems with the X10 range, SE could really do with another high-end smartphone along soon to claw back some of the esteem it will have lost among the more committed Fandroids.
In the UK, owners of the branded versions of the original X10, X10 Mini and X10 Mini Pro are still running the ageing 1.6 version of Google’s OS, leaving them some way behind the Desire, Desire HD and Samsung Galaxy S, all of which are on Android 2.1 or above.
