Orange has released Android 2.1, AKA Éclair, for the Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 and X10 Mini, bringing the handsets somewhere approximating up to speed with rival devices.

Prior to the update being pushed out, the X10 range has been stuck on the ageing 1.6 edition of Google’s operating system. That left owners looking covetously on at the likes of UK HTC Desire users who’ve already got the newer 2.2 iteration (Froyo).

However, as of today at least, folks who opted for a phone in the X10 range can hold their heads up high, with the addition of a host of new features. These include interactive live wallpapers and extra homescreens to give you more space to arrange your widgets and shortcuts.

Éclair also adds a new look app launcher, a pretty slick thumbnail-based navigation system and a faster voice to text typing system.

Other additions are:

  • Improved Bluetooth functionality with support for sending and receiving objects
  • New backup and restore application with extended content back up of music, pictures, messages and more
  • Social phonebook which automatically syncs contact pictures from Facebook
  • Improved ways of handling pictures, audio, text and numbers in your messages
  • Improved Android Marketplace

All of us are "over the air" with the never come "Update 2.1".

I am extremely disappointed with SE.

I've had enough and will be switching to either the iPhone or the Samsung Galaxy S.

Really annoyed with SE. The update has taken too long and now I don't care. I will be switching to HTC the first chance I get.

Damn it Sony. Took your sweet time. If I had of known that you would be taking so long for an update of Android I would have purchased a HTC or the Galaxy S instead.

i am just wondering about my rights here, i have had 4 x10s from t mobile because they
1 kept crashing when using google navigate
    Batteries would not charge.
Screen kept freezing and locking me out .
Phone would just crash on its own and restart.
My main one though was the google navigate which is the main reason i bought the phone.
It was obvious from the start that the software was to big for the phone soft hence it kept crashing. very annoying when you use it for driving. how can you get away with selling a phone that doesnt work the software that given on it ????. advice NEVER buy sony
