Samsung Galaxy S owners on Orange will have to wait until January to upgrade their handsets to Android 2.2, AKA Froyo, it has been announced.

Orange and its Everything Everywhere partner network T-Mobile had originally planned to push out Android 2.2 to Sammy’s smartphone back in November.

However, as is now the accepted form with Android system upgrades, which have been perpetually delayed by network testing, that E.TA passed some time ago with no sign of Froyo arriving on the phone.

Now, if Orange’s Twitter feed is anything to go by, it seems that we’re looking at January for the update.

Responding to a query from a follower, Orange stated: “We're expecting Froyo for the Galaxy S in January. the update will be via Kies [Samsung’s proprietary download solution] however.”

The good news is that when you do finally get Froyo, it’s worth the wait. Improvements include 720p video recording, Flash Player 10.1 and USB tethering, plus numerous performance optimisations.

Just two words for Orange / Samsung - Hopeless......Hopeless. I am repenting on my decision already of buying Samsung Galaxy S. When others will be upgraded to Gingerbread, we still will be struggling to get Froyo...........

I agree. This wait is rediculous. Surely Orange should be imbarrassed about being one of the biggest network providers and yet the last to release should a massive update for the galaxy s. Quite honestly i'm not too bothered about the upgrade to android 2.3 as i don't think it will be so life changing from 2.2. However android 2.2 is critical to bring it upto iphone standard with the flash 10.1 and also the performance boost.

I have been very tempted to flash my phone, but i'm scared to void the warrenty and insurance i have on the phone.

Damn you orange you have become an embarrassing joke. All credability has been lost

I have been waiting for Froyo for my Galaxy S since I got the phone a few months back and was expecting to be able to get it in November, but that was for unlocked handsets.

A few people have recommended flashing it with a custom ROM but now I'm worried I will "brick" it if it all goes pear shaped. Really disappointed with Orange, and that you have to use Kies to get it, whereas all other Android handsets do it automatically via the handset!

I've finally got Froyo on my Orange Galaxy S but there is a significant problem with it. It won't let you go into the Messaging App without first enabling 3G Data connection. This used to work fine on Android 2.1.
