It took its sweet time but Android 2.2, AKA Froyo has finally arrived safe and sound for contract-free versions of the HTC Legend.

Last month we reported that both the HTC Legend and Wildfire would be receiving an imminent bump to the semi-latest iteration of Google’s OS. Well, if you own the former, the momentous day is here.

HTC confirmed via its Facebook page that the “Android 2.2 update for HTC Legend will begin to roll out across Europe” starting today. Although some Legend owners with Vodafone and Orange have already received the over the air update last month, the rest had been left out in the cold for no specific reason.

To check if the update is available, simply follow these steps on your handset to navigate to the update screen: menu > settings > about phone > system software update > check now. However, before you proceed to download, be sure to perform a system backup first to avoid any loss of data.

The mouth-watering features of Froyo include high-definition video recording in 720p, Flash Player support and Wi-Fi/USB tethering that enables your phone to double up as a mobile Internet dongle cum Wi-Fi hotspot.

Wildfire owners, don’t fret. We’re sure an update for you is also just around the corner. Keep checking here for further information.
