The first-ever PlayStation branded smartphone, the Sony Ericsson Z1, aka “Zeus” will reportedly hit stores in the UK in Q2 2011, sources familiar to the project has claimed.
The anonymous tipster who informed Pocket-Lint of the developments, said: “Sony Ericsson is going big on this one”, but added that “although it will get a February launch, it won’t be in shops until April”.
The PlayStation phone has been the subject of much debate ever since it was leaked on Engadget a few months back. The handset is widely expected to be officially unveiled at the Mobile World Congress (MWC) expo in February. Although an April launch isn’t out of the realm of possibility, we can’t guarantee that this isn’t an elaborate April fool joke either. So as with any rumour, take this one with your recommended daily intake of sodium.
We can however, say with a certain degree of belief, that the phone itself is real and runs on Google's Android Gingerbread operating system as you can see for yourself in this leaked footage:
Stay tuned as we have more details on the PlayStation phone.
